Emily T. Cupelli

Emily Cupelli directs the Children’s Center for Bladder Control at Pediatric Urology Associates, Maimonides Medical Center. Dr. Cupelli started the center in 2000 when she joined Pediatric Urology Associates.
Dr. Cupelli started the Center in 2000 in Brooklyn, developing and growing the newly formed Long Island center, splitting time between both locations until 2011, when she elected to devote her time in the growing Brooklyn office. To that end, Dr. Cupelli is fully credentialed within the Department of Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center.
Some of her professional responsibilities include the diagnosis and treatment of voiding problems due to bowel and bladder dysfunction, urinary tract infections, and innovative care for children with neurological and developmental problems such as Spina Bifida, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. She is responsible for ambulatory urodynamics (CMG), utilizing standards developed by the I-C-C-S (international Children’s Continence Society). Dr. Cupelli’s practice includes a strong focus on multiculturalism and global health. She regularly consults with the MMC Child Life Department, as well as various community outreach programs.
Her current research is geared towards exploring the relationship between Sensory Processing and Incontinence in school aged children, and in the relationship between sleep and nocturnal enuresis in older adolescents. She has presented her research at the International Children’s Continence Society (2012, London), the American Academy of Pediatrics (2012, New Orleans) and at Stony Brook University Converging Science Summit (2011). Dr. Cupelli is certified by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation. This rigorous certification is recognized internationally as a standard for the practice of Biofeedback Therapy. She has been a Fellow in the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners since 1998 and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the National Honor Society of Professional Nursing since 1978.
Additional professional memberships include The International Children’s Continence Society, Sigma Theta Tau (Honor Society of Nursing) and the Society of Urologic Nurses.
Ms. Cupelli has earned a Doctorate (DNP) at the Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center. She is a graduate of Binghamton University (B.S.); New York University (M.A.) and Stony Brook University (Post Master’s Certificate). Prior to joining PUA, Dr. Cupelli was an associate in a primary care practice and on the faculty at Molloy College as coordinator/director of the PNP program. She has been an adjunct faculty member at New York University. She is the parent of two children.
